Standard I: Technology Information Access, Evaluation, Processing and Application

Access, evaluate, and process information efficiently and effectively

I think the first project we did, the TPACK Game, was an effective way of showing how technology can be used to meet all aspects of this standard, from gathering information, to applying knowledge, to presenting the finished work.

Standard II: Communication

A. Use technology effectively and appropriately to interact electronically.
B. Use technology to communicate information in a variety of formats.

Throughout the duration of this course, the technological tool most used to effectively communicate and interact with my peers has been this blog. With each blog post, I shared my findings and opinions with classmates, and they gave feedback as well as their own opinions through blog comments. The most obvious example of this in my blog is in my entry about Jean Lave and her Situated Learning Theory. Through this post, my classmates were able to understand the major concepts and ideas behind this theory and discuss what they thought about the theory.

Standard III: Legal, Social and Ethical Issues

Demonstrate an understanding of the legal, social, and ethical issues related to technology use.

The assignment that allowed us to dig the deepest into legal, social, and ethical issues was the Copyright and Fair Trade blog assignment. This assignment challenged us to learn more about legal and ethical issues in realation to copyrights.

Standard IV: Assessment for Administration and Instruction

Use technology to analyze problems and develop data-driven solutions for instructional and school improvement.

The Web 2.0 Blog assignment forced me to take a look at how these Web 2.0 tools can be used to improve student learning. The major problem in today’s classrooms is the tech savvy abilities students have, yet the surprisingly boring and technology void classrooms they are supposed to learn in.Using these tools can greatly impact students and their desire and motivation to learn.

Standard V: Integrating Technology into the Curriculum and Instruction

Design, implement and assess learning experiences that incorporate use of technology in the curriculum-related instructional activity to support understanding, inquiry, problem-solving, communication or collaboration.

Our Tech Case Study project focused on a lesson in which technology was incorporated into the curriculum and instruction. In this assignment, students were ultimately to create slide shows using KidPix deluxe software, which would assist them in sharing their findings as well as show their understanding of the their specific topic.

Standard VI: Assistive Technologies

Understand human, equity, and developmental issues surrounding the use of assistive technology to enhance student learning performance and apply that understanding to practice.

In order to learn how to use these assistive technologies, students need to be taught the risks, so that they can develop safe habits when it comes to using resources such as the internet. I learned a lot from our Internet Safety and Cyber Ethics project on what hazards there are out in cyberspace that I need to help my students stay away from.

Standard VII: Professional Growth

Develop professional practices that support continual learning and professional growth in technology.

Just in the five weeks that I’ve had this course, my continual learning and growth is evident from the very first blog post I created (My Technobiography), when compared to another blog post such as the Situated Learning Theory one. In the first one, I simply copied and pasted clip art.In the other, I created a web map and inserted a video from youtube.
